FAQs
A first of its kind world-class institution for shaping a new kind of public leader.
It is very important that you read the Application Process document carefully before you start applying. Make sure you understand the questions you are being asked and respond to what is being requested. Keep to the word count limits.
Do not narrate the problems of Nigeria in your statement. We all know the problems of the nation. One question asked focuses on your contribution to society. In your response, we want to know what you have been doing so far in terms of solving problems around you. Tell us explicitly what you have done and what you intend to continue to do. In other words, make sure you address/answer the key points asked for in your personal statement. The Golden rule for writing is to stick to +/- 10% of the stated word count. That means that for a statement that requests 750 words, if you submit 500 words or 1000 words, you have failed to follow the instructions and your application will be at a high risk of being disqualified. Answer the questions you are being asked, not the questions you wish for or prefer to have been asked. Give examples for the claims you make- we want verifiable facts that anchor your experience for the Admissions Committee.
Provide the number of recommendation letters asked for in the application from any of the following categories: Peer, Employer, Community. Your recommender should know you and be able to speak to your character and purpose in detail. We will not accept letters that are two lines or two sentences about you, and the letter should be substantial, recent, and specifically addressed to the SPPG. Please do not send us letters written for you more than one year ago.
Finally, your recommendation letter should have both your unique application code for identification purposes and your recommender’s contact information. Recommendations on official letterheads are highly encouraged, and we also accept recommendations not on official letterheads as long as it contains full contact details and the recommender’s signature. Overall, we will not accept unsigned letters.
A professional CV/Resume should highlight your career/professional accomplishments and academic achievements. At most, it should be two pages long. If your CV/Resume is longer than two pages, focus on the most relevant experience connected to your application to the SPPG.
When uploading your certificates, make sure you send certificates of your education at the undergraduate, diploma, and graduate levels. Certificates showing your higher education achievements are critical for the admissions process. Do not send us certificates of professional or community-building programs you attended.
Applicants should be at least 25 years old to apply.
Applicants should have at least BA, B.Sc or HND before applying.
Application fee is 10,000, and Tuition is N400,000. A scholarship of 40% of Tuition Fees is available; terms and conditions apply.
The program runs for a cumulative period of ten months. Students will have two scheduled breaks.
The SPPG program is intensive and requires significant time commitment as we demand 98% attendance. Classes are four days a week- from Tuesdays to Fridays – for 3 hours each evening. You will also have assessments, group discussions, and community projects to complete in order to graduate successfully. We must stress that it is important to check your life and schedule and ensure that you can dedicate the time necessary to the program.
Faculty will assign readings. Readings include diverse texts on African and global contemporary political economy, historical evolution, transforming societies and building leadership. Students are expected to obtain texts and any necessary course materials for themselves.
Classes will be offered primarily through a Virtual Learning Environment (VLE) hosted on sppghle.org. After admission, you will be provided login credentials. You also need to have a zoom account. See the list of technical requirements in the Student Learning Guide needed to ensure a seamless learning experience.
A number of compatible operating systems and browsers have been detailed in SPPG’s Student Learning Guide. To ensure a smooth learning experience, use any of the specified systems and browsers.
With successful completion of all the modules, coursework, capstone project, and participation compliance, students will be awarded the Certificate in Public Leadership and Policy (CPLP).
After admission, students will receive guidance on school expectations in the classroom and beyond, attendance process and procedures, and any other matter from the Student Liaison Office (SLO). The Hybrid Learning Environment Team (HLE) will provide students access to the school’s Virtual Learning Platform and provide all needed technical support.
